Publisher’s Circle donors give vote of confidence to community journalism

We’re not done fundraising for matching funds yet, we still have a few thousand dollars more to raise — but we’ve come a long way with the votes of confidence cast by donors in our Publisher’s Circle. The Circle’s grown and shows the breadth and depth of support from readers in Whatcom, San Juan and Skagit counties. Please vote for nonprofit independent news by donating before the end of the month. Read more to see who’s in the Circle — and we hope to see you in the Circle, too. Thank you.

New match grant awarded

Dec. 10, 2021

We sincerely thank our readers listed below in our Publisher’s Circle for their donations to our NewsMatch campaign. We’ve just about reached our NewsMatch goal — and this week we received the great news that Salish Current has been selected to receive additional matching funds from a group of NewsMatch partners who want to recognize service to communities of color and newsrooms led by people of color. Knight Foundation, Meta Journalism Project and the Walton Family Foundation are funding this Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Partner Fund, as an augmentation to NewsMatch.

Reader, when we meet this new fund match total by Dec. 31 — and we feel confident we will with your donation — we will have met our 2021 fundraising goal and secured our 2022 operating budget.

That means you can count on continuing to read original, fact-based news reports, a weekly newsletter of curated local news links, and lively commentary that affirms our commitment to work for truth, justice, equity and healing for all people.

We’re committed to a paywall-free website and advertising-free content because we believe in journalism as a public service. To those who have donated to make this happen, a sincere thank you.

Through this month, a one-time suggested donation of $120 or a recurring monthly donation of $10 matched for the full 12-month amount will bring Salish Current $240; or donate more or less, as you can afford, and that amount will be matched. You can make your donation online using PayPal or your credit card of choice, or by check and mail, the old-fashioned way.

Thank you for reading Salish Current — and thank you for supporting news for our community.
