Organizers say April 5 actions are more about morals, less about political affiliation
Tomorrow, April 5, chapters of the activist organization Indivisible will meet over Skagit, Whatcom and San Juan counties, joining hundreds of thousands of people across the country urging the Trump administration to rescind policies and rhetoric regarding Medicaid, Social Security, public lands, jobs, education, veteran’s benefits, undocumented citizens, transgender rights, Ukraine aid, diversity programs, Canada, Mexico, reproductive rights and more.
The national mass mobilization, comprising over 1,000 events across the country and organized in partnership between activist groups Third Act, Indivisible, MoveOn and many others, seeks to provide a clear message to the Trump administration: “hands off.”
According to the Third Act website, the event is less about political affiliation and more about morals.
In the past month, Salish Current has heard from the community about the new administration’s local impact, such as the threat of cutting federal funds to school districts, dismantling San Juan Islands National Monument group, ICE policies leading to the arrest of local activists and what an executive order on logging means for the environment and economy, among others.
Protesters plan to meet in Skagit, Whatcom and San Juan counties at the following places and times:
11 a.m.
- Kiosk, Blind Bay Road on Shaw Island
12 p.m.
- Bellingham City Hall, 210 Lottie Street
- Peace Arch Historical State Park, 123 Second Street in Blaine [This rally will focus primarily on solidarity with Canada.]
- Public sidewalk in front of the Everson Market, 210 East Main Street in Everson
- Skagit County Courthouse, 205 West Kincaid Street in Mount Vernon [Rallyers in Anacortes, Sedro-Woolley and Mount Vernon plan to caravan to the Skagit County Courthouse for a “mass convergence of east county, west county and central county.”]
- San Juan County Courthouse, 350 Court Street in Friday Harbor
